Travelers often face the difficult decision of whether a smartphone is sufficient or a full-on laptop required. While the early mini-laptops, called “netbooks,” were marginally easier to work on than smartphones, their cramped keyboards, tiny screens, and limited horsepower relegated them to email and web-surfing duty. Thanks to hardware and software advances, road warriors can [...]

Veteran Wall Street Journal travel reporter Scott McCartney writes in his recent column, “Whatever You Do, Don’t Buy An Airline Ticket On…” that, indeed, travelers are generally better off purchasing on Tuesday, as most airlines launch sales Monday night, competitors match on Tuesday, and by Thursday or Friday the sales have likely expired.

One item that is always worn or carried when TTR is out and about is a multi-tool. Unless airport security is on the itinerary, the multi-tool of choice is a Gerber, and the Gerber 01471 Suspension Butterfly Opening Multi-Plier continues Gerber’s rich tradition of building quality, usefulness, and value into its multi-tools. Few things can ruin a trip like improper clothing, with ill-fitting shoes and inappropriate jackets topping the list. Before digging into the eminently useful Lowepro Fastpack 200 backpack, it’s important to note how TTR categorizes travel bags. There are bags for getting to one’s destination, bags for using at the destination, and activity-specific bags. The Fastpack 200 falls into the middle category, what some might call a daypack, but is more capable. In [...]

Reading on the go doesn’t necessarily require one to carry a load of books. From a novel for the train to a guidebook for your destination, electronic readers can carry all the books one needs for nearly any trip. By far the most popular dedicated e-reader is the Kindle Wireless Reading Device, but it faces [...]
